Norman states:
Until the late forties, if you were interested in acquiring rights and
interests for motion picture content it was a relatively simple process. You
could contact the motion picture distributors and negotiate for theatrical or
non-theatrical rights.
The fifties brought the industry into the era of worldwide television. The
process was still very simple. If you were looking for television rights, you
contacted the people at the company who owned the content, and bought whatever
rights you were interested in.
As technology advanced, these rights fragmented into broadcast, cable,
satellite, DVD, Internet and many other digital rights situations. The digital
explosion has made the process even more complicated today then it was only a
few years ago.
I have been in the business of assisting companies in obtaining, evaluating
or selling content. I assist clients in a variety of ways, but primarily by
working with them in order to do business with rights holders under the most
favorable terms attainable.
