"The House I Live In"
I had lunch recently with a thirty-something friend and business
associate who told me that Bush did the right thing by invading Iraq.
He considers me to be a Democrat who speaks on issues from "the
left". Many of my Republican friends say the same thing. I would like
to express myself in a manner that will, I hope, clarify my position,
particularly as it pertains to our President. I told this all to my
friend in a very nice way; he was buying lunch.
What I am saying is not about socialized medicine, nationalizing all
of the energy companies, social welfare and things like that. It is
about monumental mistakes, lies, misleads, and such that have been
"PERPERTRATED" by the President. It is not from a position of "the
left or the right," but rather from my perceptions of truth and
reasonableness.
The President went to war because he had bad information, or lied
about things he knew not to be true, or for some other reason. What a
horrid act. This is not "from the left", it is just SO, and not what
America does.
The President has authorized spying on Americans because he wants to
protect us from terrorist attacks. What a horrid act. This is not
"from the left", it is just SO, and not what America does.
The President has authorized the torture of all kinds of prisoners
because he wants to protect us from terrorist attacks. What a horrid
act. This is not "from the left", it is just SO, and not what America
does.
This is excerpted from a NY Times editorial "...his intention not to
enforce anything he dislikes... Mr. Bush had issued more than 750
presidential signing statements declaring he wouldn't do what the
laws required". What a horrid act. This is not "from the left", it is
just SO, and not what America does.
The President has declared "I am the DECIDER." What a horrid
statement. This is not "from the left", it is just SO, and not what
America does.
The President has declared that there is no such thing as global
warming, or at least that there is inadequate science to prove the
statement, and had us deny the Kyoto Accord. What a horrid act. This
is not "from the left," it is just SO, and not what America does.
The President has declared that under his guidance, the country and
the economy are prospering. The truth is that we are doing this with
borrowed money that we will need to repay, with interest. Not a good
thing for America. This is not a comment "from the left," it is just
SO, and not what America does.
The President nominated Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court, supported
the Dubai port deal, and mishandled Katrina. What a group of horrid
acts. This is not a comment "from the left," it is just SO, and not
what America does.
During the last five plus years, the President has chosen
expeditiously to do as he pleases, or believes is the best course of
action for this country. Mel Brooks said in the movie "History Of The
World... It's good to be the king!" It would appear that the
President feels that way as well.
This is not a comment "from the left," it is just SO, and not what
America does.
"What is America to me?
A name, a map, or a flag I see
A certain word, democracy
What is America to me?"
Bring back America!
