"A Secular Moment"
The School Board in the City of Shreveport Louisiana, Caddo Parish
announced that it was changing the Science curriculum in light of the
two recent devastating hurricanes to hit this city of 200,000.
Reflecting the remarks made by their Mayor Robert W. (Bo) Williams,
School board chairman Herbert K Smith indicated that he and the
board, (in a 7-2) decision can no longer tolerate the inclusion in
11th grade science, the study of meteorology, without reference to an
alternate theory that the weather is controlled by higher power, (or
as part of the theory of intelligent design).
Bo went on to say that the current classes raise the godless theory
of the possibility of global warming being responsible for the
climate changes, along with the unsubstantiated theory that somehow
the draining of the wetlands was also a contributing factor to the
flooding.
The board heard testimony from the chief of the Caddo Indians, whose
tribe ceded the Parrish lands to the settlers early in the 19th
century. The tribal council agreed with the changes as well.
Parrish clerk Arthur G. Thompson indicated in a statement that the
full changes needed to pass through the council of Southern Louisiana
Parishes, and that the issue would be submitted to them by the end of
the school year.
Of course, sick person that I am I made ALL of this up, but it sounds
good to me.
